Time to learn a little about Sam Hermes, who will be speaking on Submitting an accessibility-ready theme to WordPress at this year’s WordCamp St. Louis.

NILE FLORES: When did you start using WordPress?
SAM HERMES: I started using WordPress about 5 years ago for my freelance projects, and now I used it every day at WashU.
NILE FLORES: What are a few takeaways that attendees will get from your talk?
SAM HERMES: I hope that attendees will see that they can create and submit a theme of their own, and that the process is fairly straightforward. I also hope that I’ll be able to demonstrate the importance of the accessibility-ready tag, and how a little bit of extra work can go a long way to having a high quality, accessible theme.
NILE FLORES: WordPress is turning 15 years old. What would you like to see in the future for WordPress?
SAM HERMES: I’m very excited for what Gutenberg means for the WordPress project, and can’t wait for it to shift the way we think about making themes and plugins. It opens up completely new possibilities that we haven’t had previously, and we’ll be able to build so many new experiences on top of it.

SAM HERMES: I like the new post screen, it’s full of potential.

SAM HERMES: Advanced Custom Fields, Simple Page Ordering, WP Super Cache
