Interview with Michele Butcher-Jones

NILE FLORES: When did you start using WordPress?

MICHELE BUTCHER-JONES: I remember it like it was yesterday. Picture it, Carbondale 2010. It was November and already getting cold.

NILE FLORES: What are a few takeaways that attendees will get from your talk?

MICHELE BUTCHER-JONES: You do not have to be a developer or even a speaker to help out with the WordPress Community. Even the newest of users can contribute.

NILE FLORES: WordPress is turning 15 years old. What would you like to see in the future for WordPress?

MICHELE BUTCHER-JONES: I would like to see us at 50% of the web. I would also like to see the second generation WordPressers jump in and make it just that much greater!

NILE FLORES: “And just for funsies”, over the past few years, the WordPress community has seen the rise of the cute Wapuu character? Heard of it? And if so, what’s your favorite Wapuu? (Wapuu Reference: https://wapu.us/ )

MICHELE BUTCHER-JONES: Hmmmm, I think my favorite would be the one from WordCamp US last year. It reminds me of my cousin Loretta Lynn.

NILE FLORES: What is your favorite area of the WordPress admin?

MICHELE BUTCHER-JONES: I would have to say that my favorite area in the dashboard would be the editor for that is where the magic happens. If content is king then the post/page editor is the castle.

NILE FLORES: What are the top three WordPress plugins that you believe every WordPress user should have installed?

MICHELE BUTCHER-JONES:

  1. If you need forms, Gravity Forms all the way!
  2. I am still a fan of Jetpack! It has a lot of great features for the beginning users.
  3. Akismet! Spam comments stink!!!
